The Mosquito Plague I always wished that the mosquitoes would die out or go away. They always bother us here in the city. I hear it's even worse in the countryside. The female mosquitoes always come into our houses and bite us in our sleep and leave poison in our flesh. The males eat all of our vegetables that we plant. Now we have nothing to live on except cheese, milk, and a little bit of rice and veggies. I wish more and more that there were a Mosquito killer or something. One night, I had a dream. I dreamed that there was a thing that killed the mosquitoes in a far away land called Caravel. Well, in this land, all the fair maidens and gentlemen had caught a disease. This disease was called a Mosquito Plague (They later named it). This plague had been spread by the mosquitoes, male and female. Plants were wilting, people were dying. Even the animals were dying! But one year after the Mosquito Plague had started, after the population of 34,000 had decreased to 1,000 people (and half of all the people were too sick to move), something miraculous happened. The mosquitoes (whose population of 10,000 had increased to 50,000) were starting to die out. The plants started to become healthy again, the people of Caravel became healthy again. Everything stopped. The people could hear themselves breathing. Suddenly, everything started again. The people could move, the grass could blow in the wind, the air became moist, everything became well again. And you know what? The mosquitoes never came again- and that was when I woke up. Although I would wish for the Mosquitoes to die out, I certainly WOULD NOT wish for a Mosquito Plague. What if my friends died? What if I died? And even if, I decided, that made the mosquitoes go away for some reason, I certainly wouldn't want to die, and I wouldn't want my parents or relatives to die, neither my friends nor anyone else in China! So I decided, I better get along with the mosquitoes so they won't give me a plague or anything. With that decided, I lived contently my whole life for ever and ever (and the mosquitoes never bothered me again because I didn't kill them at all). |
